I tried logging into MSN Messenger a couple of days ago and got an error saying that I had to download the latest "Windows Live" version. My current version is 7.5 and I don't want to download the latest because I hate it as it is a memory hog.
After searching a few forums online, I found the following workaround to get MSN Messenger 7.5 logging me in again:
Right click the MSN Messenger icon and select Properties
On the Compatibility tab choose to Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows 2000
Click OK
Now, when you start MSN Messenger, it reinstalls/repairs it and then allows you to log in again! Only thing is, you end up with a funny icon in your System Tray.
Umm yeah i tried what you said but it doesn;t work. It tells me to download the new version which i did and which i did. But when i try to sign in it tells me again to install the new version. Help plz
Just tried today, running on XP SP2.. installed the older ver 7.5 after installed it doesnt work as it always prompt to install newer version. however the advice does works. At first I tried right click on the properties from the start program menu which its only pointed to the shortcut. So i drilled down to the program file folder where the actual program is and when you right click on it, you will see a compatible tab option...so thats where I choose a diff OS and after that whalla...the msn application repairs itself and you can logon back to the msn ..
